600 Krispy Kreme doughnuts have been sold by students at Kings College London to raise funds to pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The team of second and third year students have been rallying support across the campus, encouraging students, lecturers and even security guards to join in the fun.

The organiser, Charlotte Pywell, was first involved in Operation Christmas Child at school, but bringing the idea to her university has certainly added a new dimension. One medical student was even heard saying, “Wrapping the shoeboxes is harder than my medical degree!”

Facebook, twitter and posters on the back of toilet doors have attracted the students and Charlotte is delighted at the final response, “We have received lots of gifts, lots of donations and lots of help. The people who have volunteered have been absolutely super and have dedicated so much time.”

Over 50 shoeboxes have been wrapped and packed and next year the team hope to reach 150. If they go into competition against University College London, Charlotte anticipates getting some sports teams involved by appealing to their competitive streak!
