Celebrate your Operation Christmas Child Campaign in your community

Every year churches discover how Operation Christmas Child provides a great way to build links with people and other organisations in their community. As a way of celebrating and thanking everyone who has taken part in the project, we encourage churches to hold a Shoe Box Celebration to mark the end of their campaign. Churches have also found this is a wonderful, non-threatening way of encouraging people who would not normally come to church, to bring their boxes and their family along to a shoe box celebration.

2008 Shoe Box Celebration Guide

This year we have produced a new Shoe Box Celebration Guide that is only available for download by clicking here.

The following resources are also available for use in your Shoe Box Celebration:

The Guide is based around 4 simple questions:

  1. Why are we here?
  2. Where are the shoe boxes going?
  3. What will these gifts mean?
  4. What more can we do?

To help you explore the answers to these questions, our Celebration Guide offers you a choice of activities you can easily adapt for your own church situation. These include talks, prayers, a quiz, the story of Mungo’s New Home featured in PowerPoint format, games and even ‘Pass the Prayer Parcel’. There are opportunities to involve many willing volunteers in the Celebration, so don’t forget to invite a local school choir or a drama group to play their part as well.

Following the success of last year’s Shoe Box Celebration Outline, we are making these resources available once again by clicking here. Please feel welcome to mix and match the various resources and encourage people in your congregation to come up with their own ideas for involving and thanking people who have supported the campaign in 2008.
